Are you a visionary leader passionate about developing and implementing strategies to increase major gifts, build, and foster meaningful relationships with donors? LSS is seeking a dynamic Vice President, Mission Advancement to lead efforts in amplifying our mission by communicating our story and building meaningful connections with key businesses/corporations, foundations, and individual philanthropists.

$600 Sign-On Bonus

Salary: Dependent on experience and qualifications

Key Responsibilities

Strategy/Planning/Finance

  • Develop and implement annual plan for Philanthropy Services
  • Oversee the development of the LSS annual marketing plan
  • Develop and manage annual budget for Philanthropy Services
  • Research economic and business condition affecting LSS
  • Develop and execute special campaigns for capital and other needs
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase the volume of major gifts received on an annual basis
  • Conduct analysis of return on investment relating to fundraising activities
  • Develop and implement strategies to target donor retention and new donor acquisition
  • Manage service contracts for Philanthropy Services including development of RFPs for vendor services

Public and Church Relations

  • Effectively communicate LSS mission, vision, and values
  • Represent LSS through participation at community events and involvement in community organizations
  • Present to individuals, congregations, and groups on LSS services and philanthropic opportunities
  • Develop and maintain positive relations with key local, regional and state businesses/corporations, foundations, and individual philanthropists
  • Develop meaningful relationships with SD Synod of the ELCA, ELCA pastors, church groups and other key stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with Lutheran Planned Giving

Leadership

  • Lead Marketing/Communications, Donor Relations, and Philanthropy team
  • Routinely communicate one on one with employees to discuss job performance and expectations
  • Participate on LSS Executive and Leadership teams
  • Engage the LSS Governing and Foundation Board of Directors in fund raising activities

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
  • Minimum 4 years of executive level experience in philanthropy, marketing/communications or similar field
  • Supervisory and management experience required
  • Experience in budget development, monitoring, and achievement
  • Must possess strong communication/presentation skills
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking skills to resolve personnel and/or agency challenges
