Job Summary:

This is a weekend position Saturday - Monday; 6:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m.; 12 hours shifts with benefits with the Department of Human Services - South Dakota Developmental Center. The Scheduling Coordinator I provides daily/weekly scheduling from the master schedule for direct care staff, keeps daily tallies and creates reports due to sick leave, personal leave and hospital coverage. This position also runs the switchboard, deciphers and types responder logs, maintains equipment, orders supplies, processes and computes the daily facility census, and provides information and assistance to staff in emergency situations.

The Scheduling Coordinator II In addition to the above provides six week and daily scheduling for direct care, clerical and higher-level staff such as registered nurses, occupational and recreational therapists and social workers. This position also keeps daily shift tallies, reviews and verifies employee overtime forms, and creates reports. Must be fluent with scheduling software and Microsoft Office. The Scheduling Coordinator II also assists in updating staff addresses and phone numbers and helps track visitors' log.

Classification and payrate will be dependent upon work experience and qualifications. Duties in the higher classifications will be similar; however, project complexity and oversight may change.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail oriented, and able to manage complex scheduling needs in a fast-paced care environment. A successful Scheduling Coordinator is proactive, adaptable, and comfortable balancing shifting priorities while maintaining accuracy. The ideal candidate is proficient with scheduling software, maintains confidentiality, and consistently upholds regulatory and facility standards. The candidate demonstrates strong communication skills and can coordinate effectively with staff.

Knowledge of:
  • Strong understanding of staffing patterns and scheduling needs within an Intermediate Care Facility
  • Coordination of shifts while ensuring compliance with state regulations and required staffing ratios
  • Approaches to addressing last-minute call-ins, coverage gaps, and staffing emergencies with professionalism

Skill to:
  • Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally
  • Demonstrate strong organizational abilities and attention to detail
  • Apply problem-solving skills with a calm, solution-focused approach

Ability to:
  • Multitask and manage competing priorities
  • Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Use scheduling software with confidence

This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
