POSITION SUMMARY:
The Welder is responsible for performing welding tasks involved in the construction of trailer base frames, walls, roof, doors, ramps, and gates for various aluminum-framed trailers. This includes measuring, cutting, and welding of aluminum trailer components.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reads and follows blueprints and work orders, ensuring a quality product that meets customer demands.
Welds different facets of aluminum trailers, including but not limited to: tacking, clamping, and welding with proper bead size on bases and cages in accordance with the work order; ensures quality of welds for structural integrity.
Obtains raw materials from Material Handlers.
Buff out rough edges using a hand-held power grinder.
Notifies supervisor of any mechanical or material issues, including but not limited to, defects in material, damage to the trailer, and deviations from work order.
Ensures that the finished product meets quality expectations. Strives for the highest level of quality and understands the need for continuous improvement; supports the concept of “good enough is never good enough”.
Maintains a clean and safe work area; works to minimize scrap, places unused material back in the appropriate area, and disposes of waste appropriately.
Follows all safety procedures, wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and reports any accidents or near misses to the supervisor immediately.
Performs other related duties and assignments as required.
DESIRED EDUCATION//EXPERIENCE:
Minimum: previous welding experience and ability to read a tape measure.
Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment is helpful
Prior welding experience of aluminum or steel is desired.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Standing– up to 80%
Walking - up to 80%
Lifting– approximately 55% during the shift
Up to 25 pounds constantly
Up to 50 pounds frequently
Up to 100 pounds occasionally
Twisting - 1-120 twists/day
Bending - 1-120 bends/day
Pushing & Pulling trailers with assistance
– up to 15/day
Working at heights on a ladder or on scaffolding with the use of a harness
Kneeling – up to 10%
Climbing– up to 40%
Moderate deviations of the wrists
Frequent use of both hands
Long periods(8-10 hrs./day) of vibration
Exposure to moderate, steady and fairly loud noise, below 85db
The ability to work in 80-90°F temperatures during the summer
May be exposed to slippery work surfaces (up to 10 hrs./day)
Utilize appropriate PPE – may include the use of a respirator
Exposure to dust, dirt, and shavings
