Department: Welding
Work Hours: 4:00 pm - 2:30 am Monday - Thursday
Position Summary
The Shift Lead is responsible for coordinating daily production activities, supporting team members, and ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency standards are met. This role serves as a hands-on technical leader within the department and may assume supervisory responsibilities when needed.
Responsibilities
Lead daily department startup and coordinate personnel, materials, and equipment to meet production schedules
Support, train, and coach team members on welding processes, equipment operation, and safety procedures
Operate, program, set up, and troubleshoot manual and automated welding equipment as needed
Perform welding and fabrication work from prints and drawings without assistance
Monitor production quality, efficiency, and safety; document and report issues as required
Inspect parts for accuracy, quality, and cosmetic appearance and address discrepancies
Assist with material requisitions, inventory accuracy, Kanban systems, and physical counts
Perform and assign routine and preventative maintenance on department equipment
Participate in cross-functional problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts
Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas at all times
Assume delegated supervisory duties in the absence of the Department Supervisor
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Prior experience in industrial welding required
3–5 years of experience as a specialist or lead in an industrial welding environment preferred
Required Skills
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to read blueprints, use measuring equipment, and convert fractions to decimals
Proficiency with industrial welding systems and materials (steel, aluminum, stainless steel, brass, copper)
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
Ability to work independently and in a team-based, fast-paced environment
Commitment to continuous improvement and the DeGeest Stronger Standard
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and reaching
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
Ability to work around industrial equipment with required PPE

Pay:
Hiring Salary Range: $32.00-$35.00/hour (plus $1.00 shift differential rate)

Note: The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is eligible for a bonus.
