Location: Tea, SD (right off I-29)
Department: Welding
Work Hours: 4:00 pm - 2:30 am Monday - Thursday

Position Summary

The Shift Lead is responsible for coordinating daily production activities, supporting team members, and ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency standards are met. This role serves as a hands-on technical leader within the department and may assume supervisory responsibilities when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily department startup and coordinate personnel, materials, and equipment to meet production schedules

  • Support, train, and coach team members on welding processes, equipment operation, and safety procedures

  • Operate, program, set up, and troubleshoot manual and automated welding equipment as needed

  • Perform welding and fabrication work from prints and drawings without assistance

  • Monitor production quality, efficiency, and safety; document and report issues as required

  • Inspect parts for accuracy, quality, and cosmetic appearance and address discrepancies

  • Assist with material requisitions, inventory accuracy, Kanban systems, and physical counts

  • Perform and assign routine and preventative maintenance on department equipment

  • Participate in cross-functional problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas at all times

  • Assume delegated supervisory duties in the absence of the Department Supervisor

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Prior experience in industrial welding required

  • 3–5 years of experience as a specialist or lead in an industrial welding environment preferred

Required Skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

  • Ability to read blueprints, use measuring equipment, and convert fractions to decimals

  • Proficiency with industrial welding systems and materials (steel, aluminum, stainless steel, brass, copper)

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability

  • Ability to work independently and in a team-based, fast-paced environment

  • Commitment to continuous improvement and the DeGeest Stronger Standard

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and reaching

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly

  • Ability to work around industrial equipment with required PPE

Pay:
Hiring Salary Range: $32.00-$35.00/hour (plus $1.00 shift differential rate)

Note: The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is eligible for a bonus.
